4-Methoxy Benzoic Acid

4-Methoxy Benzoic Acid

4-Methylbenzoic acid, or para-anisic acid, is chemically called with its molecule number C8H8O3 symbol. It is the derivative of benzoic acid having a methoxy group = OCH3 bonded to it at para position = position 4 of the benzene ring.

It is a white crystalline solid with too little solubility with water but high solubility with organic solvents like ethanol and ether. It is widely used in organic synthesis as a base material or intermediate for the construction of different industrial dyes, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and chemical compounds.

Besides, 4-methoxybenzoic acid is called a part of organic chemistry due to its 3-fold biological properties. Many studies have proven that it is an antimicrobial agent and an enzyme inhibitor.
